Description
Thallus: fruticose, up to 10 cm high, pseudopodetia usually strongly divided
Phyllocaldia: terete-coralloid
Cephalodia: sacculate, greyish
Apothecia: common, terminal, to 0.7 mm diam., strongly convex
Ascospores: hyaline, 7-8 septate, 50-55 x 7-8 µm.

Ecology and distribution. Common and widespread in the southern subpolar region and Antarctica.

Notes. Lamb (1977) recognised several varieties and forms of this taxon, but these are no longer generally accepted.
